DROGOR

Her lips pull me out of the fortress in my head. I can’t deny her. I’ve never been able to resist—when she calls, I will always be there.

As my body responds and I recognize her touch, awareness expands and I’m holding her. She is as perfect as ever. Her body, though new and much different, still fits perfectly to mine. I swear her lips are no different than they were before. How could I ever forget them?

She nibbles my lips, pulling back, exactly as she used to do. My primary cock throbs, aching with need of her. Her taste is different than I remember, yet familiar. I wrap my arms around her, wanting to meld our flesh into one.

She trails her fingers over my face. I close my eyes, focusing on the sensations, when suddenly she gasps and jerks back. She slides off the table and stumbles backwards, crossing her arms over herself, shaking her head.

I rise onto my elbows, trying to understand. The fog of bijass and the escape I’d retreated to is heavy in my head. It feels as if I’m not actually here, and perhaps I’m not. Perhaps this is all a fantasy. A dream I’ve concocted to pass the time while I wait.

Her face is pale, and her eyes are wide while her mouth moves silently as if she’s trying to say words that won’t come. I swing off the table, and as my feet touch the ground, that contact with reality pulls me out of the fog. I am here. She is here. She needs me.

The dragon roars, and its burning breath pushes back the fog. She needs me. Arms wide, I move across the room, but she holds up a hand as she moves away.

“No,” she shakes her head.

I stop, not understanding, but her wish is my command. Arms crossed over her chest, she hugs herself and rubs her arms. She shakes her head, blinking several times.

“Harper?”

She drops her arms and squares her shoulders. The look of shock on her face is quickly replaced with a smile. A perfect, warm, natural-looking smile, but I see the strain at the corners of her mouth. The tiny wrinkles at the edge of her eyes. She’s working hard to present this front.

An instant of debate, and love wins. I love her. It throbs in my chest like an extra heart, pulsing through my blood. I love her, and I won’t take this façade from her because I understand in it she finds comfort. What kind of love would I be to take comfort from her?

“That woke you up,” she says, her grin taking on a tinge of salaciousness. “Good. We’ve got a lot to talk about.”

A hundred things I want to say crash at the back of my throat, choking me. I want to go to her. Hold her. Tell her, scream it from the tops of the highest dunes, that I love her. That she is my everything, all that I need. All that I ever have and ever will need.
